The Newbees!\u00a0 \u00a0AKA Real Talk 93.3\u00a0 \u00a0There’s a theory in business that people who know little or nothing about an area of business are bound to succeed as they don’t know what they don’t know.\u00a0 \u00a0What did Elon Musk know about electric cars when he started Tesla?\u00a0 What did Bill Gates know about a personal computer you could put on a desk?\u00a0 What did Gaston Glock know about handguns before he designed and built the Glock 17?\u00a0 \u00a0What did Steve Jobs know about cell phones before he came up with the I Phone?\u00a0 \u00a0I think you know where I’m headed with these questions.\u00a0 \u00a0Which begs the question:\u00a0 What did Tracy Ellis know about radio before she decided to put on a talk radio station?\u00a0 \u00a0Well, she did a weekly real estate show back in the day on KSLQ and most recently on 97.1.\u00a0 \u00a0So will she succeed with Real Talk 93.3 just like Musk, Gates, Glock and Jobs did in their endeavors?\u00a0 \u00a0Time will tell.<\/p>\n
Yes, Tracy started out on a weekly real estate show on KSLQ (March 9th, 2009 to be exact).\u00a0 From the start she did a great job.\u00a0 \u00a0Then she added a second weekly show on 97.1\u00a0 She did that show up until a few months ago when 97.1 realized that her starting her own Conservatalker just might be competition.\u00a0 \u00a0She says she owns 93.3 (with new call letters of KRTK<\/strong><\/a>), and 104.3, KVMO<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 (Click on the call letters for a link to technical info on the stations).\u00a0 But the truth is she’s just renting both stations which are still owned by the same company that owns 101.7 K-Wulf, KLPW and a few other stations.\u00a0 \u00a0So why did she and her husband Rick get into the radio business?\u00a0 Because they felt 97.1 was no longer a conservative station!\u00a0 They felt it was their mission to put together a station to preach the true conservative gospel.\u00a0 You have to hand it to them.\u00a0 They’ve put their conservative money where their conservative mouths are.<\/p>\n They’re off to a rough start.\u00a0 Less then a month in the stations have already had several staff changes.\u00a0 \u00a0The signal on 93.3 sucks.\u00a0 The 104.3 signal covers Hannibal.\u00a0 \u00a0Hannibal?\u00a0 \u00a0Tracy keeps teasing that there are more stations on the way to fill in the huge holes in their current STL area coverage.\u00a0 But the announcements on the additional stations promised for “next week” never materialize.\u00a0 The Grand Poopah firmly believes that “as the tide rises so do all boats”, but so far the USS Tracy is taking on water and is listing just a bit (to the left???).\u00a0 \u00a0I want Rick and Tracy to do well.\u00a0 Really.\u00a0 \u00a0Maybe 10 years from now Rick and Tracy will own I Heart, Audacy, and Cumulus.\u00a0 Maybe they will also own Tesla, MicroSoft, Glock and Apple.\u00a0 \u00a0 But at this point I just hope they make into 2022.<\/p>\n So here’s the Grand Poopah’s P’s and C’s:<\/p>\n PROS:<\/p>\n CONS:<\/p>\n\n
