I have to admit I was sad to see KDHX go away.  Very sad story.  But that’s already been covered by me and other KDHX fans.   But onto being bamboozled.

When Gateway Creative Broadcasting won the auction for 88.1 by paying $8.75 MILLION (wowzer) I thought, “Here we go again.  Another Christian format”.  But alas, what emerged was a fresh new format.  St. Louis Jams.   Yeah, something that nobody else was doing.  Up tempo pop song remixes, some EDM, and just some great old school disco and dance music.  I thought this was just them stunting.  But after 3 months of the Grand Poopah getting into St. Louis Jams IT’S GONE!  BAIT AND SWITCH.  BAMBOOZLED

And what is the new format?  WorshipOne.  It bills itself as “Your community for a shared worship experience.”  I’m not sure what that means but it sounds like a great positioning statement.

OK, I listened with an open mind.  And here’s the Grand Poopah’s pros and cons on WorshipOne:

PROS:

  • It’s local from the same GCB folks that bring you Joy and Boost.
  • The presentation is excellent (the GCB folks know what they’re doing)
  • It’s not McRadio from K-Love or Air 1

CONS:

  • Slow, plodding “worship” music.
  • Did The Grand Poopah say it was slow music?
  • All the songs sound the same.
  • It’s Not KDHX.

Oh well, at least it’s local radio with local folks.  But I’m sorry, it’s just not my jam(s).
