Paul Brown is killing it! The Grand Poopah is here to compliment Paul and the folks at Donze Communications.
Donze owns and operates KBDZ 93.1. You know, the station that Randy Raley is on that keeps winning the STL Magazine best station and best personality awards. Earlier this year Donze leased 101.7 to get their signal into the Westplex. Most of the broadcast week the 93.1 rock programming is simulcast on 101.7. But on Friday nights they split the signal and Paul Brown turns into a play by play guy who broadcasts the Orchard Farm High School Football games on 101.7. Orchard Farms High School? Well, back in the day OF High was off of 94 in the middle of a corn field way out in eastern St. Charles County (not too far from Alton!). The new OF High is right around the corner from New Town, the 726 acre residential development that’s off of 370 in the city of St. Charles.
On Friday nights Paul LIVE broadcasts the Orchard Farms High School Football games. Yes, LIVE high school football on a real radio station. Kinda like Texas! But Paul doesn’t stop there. During the week Paul shows up at the OF High football practices and interviews players and coaches and puts the videos up on several socials. How many high schools get that kinda of coverage? Unfortunately fewer and fewer.
Most people will remember Paul as a news dude. He worked at KDNL-TV channel 30 and on KMOX radio for years as two of the many stops he’s made in radio and TV through the years. He’s also done print including a stint at “Ladue News” (sorry, but the Grand Poopah has to say “La DEEEEE Da!!).
In an era where most of the radio stations are owned by out of town conglomerates with little or no local programming (and staff!!!) it’s refreshing to see a local broadcaster doing local programming, especially in the Westplex.
Paul, for all you do, the Grand Poopah is all about you. NOTE TO PAUL: My “motive” is simply this. “As the tide rises, so do all boats”
