I received several calls and DM’s that an incredible talent is no longer with us. From what I’ve been able to piece together John Larrabee passed away on July 9th. John was my PD at the old KSLQ. An incredible talent and a fun guy to be around. He always amazed me with this DTFC production skills. He would cue up a record, put a cart in the machine, start the record, hit start on the cart recorder and do a perfect one-take 30 second VO. First time. He would turn around and laugh and say, “Direct to F—ing Cart!” Damn he was good!!
In his later years on the air he got his commercial pilots license and became an airborne traffic reporter for KMOX. The dude could do it all.
TRIVIA: His telephone number was listed in the White Pages (remember those?) as Fred Dawg (Fred was his dog).
I don’t know about you, but the Grand Poopah will sure miss him.
