The multi talented Dr. Randy Tobler is another one of the Refugees from 97.1 to Jeff Alien’s 101.9. But can you blame him? More on that after a brief history.
Randy’s a local boy growing up in South County. His Father was a music teacher (at Lindbergh High I believe) and Randy followed in his musical footsteps. A trombone player (low brass dudes are the best) Randy played in the orchestra pit at Fox and gigged around the STL with Bob Kuban as well as playing with national acts. Randy went to Med school at Wash U and got his MD. Impressive!
Randy started doing talk radio in the early Noughties as one of the original hosts on 97.1. When Randy started he did FIVE HOURS on Saturday morning between 6 and 11 A. The first four hours were talk and then Randy put on his stethoscope and did a medical show from 10 to 11 A. The dude can do it all.
Through the years 97.1 started cutting his Saturday morning hours. First the Med show at 10 A was cut. Then they cut his show to 3 hours, then 2 hours and most recently Randy only did 6 to 7 A. Hey, they gotta get those paying shows featuring miracle cure vitamins, retirement gurus and RE agents on the air. Much more important, but impotent at best.
So Randy waved good bye (he’s a class act and used all five fingers) to 97.1 and is now doing a three hour Saturday morning show on 101.9 (and soon to be the Viperless 100.7). Never listened to Randy? Your loss. This guy is great! A lot better than many full time talk show hosts (no names!). And keep in mind he’s still a practicing physician and is the Grand Poobah (no relation to the Grand Poopah) at a (an?) hospital. I told you this dude was talented.
And most important in the Grand Poopah’s opinion: He’s LOCAL. No McRadio here. SALUTE!
