Day 1 Of the 93.3 Newbees

Rick and Tracy’s Newbees (finally) got Real Talk 93.3 on the air on Wednesday, August 11th.   The Grand Poopah listened from 3:45 to 8:15 PM.   And The Grand Poopah’s opinion?   You don’t want to know.   Here are some of my observations:

  • At 3:45 until 4 PM Bill Eigel interviewed fellow politician Jim Lembke.   Jim sounded great.  But somebody forgot to turn Bill’s microphone ON!   Or maybe that was done on purpose as Eigel really did sound like he was in “The Echo Chamber”
  • 4 PM until 4:24 I heard at least FIFTY (not kidding) PSA’s.   No programming.   Just PSA’s back to back to back.   Some of them repeated 5 or more times (The Grand Poopah was able to memorize some of them and talk along with them after the 3rd or 4th time).  Oh yeah, there was an occasional promo featuring Jimmy “The Viper Voice” Fish 
  • At 4:25 PM an OLD (at least three weeks) “Real Talk with Dan Ball” played.  I thought he was supposed to be on at 10 PM.  And what happened to Happy Hour?
  • 6:06 until 7 PM it was the Mark Levin show.   MARK LEVIN?   Where did this come from?   He’s not even listed as being part of the Real Talk program schedule
  • 7:06 PM until 8 PM it was Ben Shapiro as promised.
  • But from 8:06 PM until 9 PM it was NOT Ben Shapiro.   Hmmm
  • And at 6, 7, and 8 PM there was no top of hour ID and dead air for 6 minutes.   No news.   No ads.  No PSAs.  NOTHING

Except for an ad or two for Rick and Tracy’s real estate business there were NO local ads.   The only ads I heard were network ads in the talk programming.

Don’t get me wrong.   I really want Rick and Tracy to succeed.   The Grand Poopah firmly believes in the theory of “As the tide rises so do all boats”.   But somebody needs to turn on the bilge pumps before the Newbee ship takes on too much water.    Yeah, I know.   First day.   But Jeff Alien and Joe Rush pulled of their first day a few weeks back with only a very few rough spots.   But then again, they’re the Refugees and not the Newbees.   What’s that saying about experience?

The Grand Poopah will be listening on DAY 2 of Real Talk.   Here’s to Real Talk getting Real Better Real Quick.
