“Ladies and Gentlemen. In the right corner wearing red, white and blue we have the Refugees. And in the far right corner wearing even more red, white and blue we have the Newbees. Let’s get ready to RABBLE!”
Ah yes, radio is the theatre of the mind. Did I paint the picture well enough for you? A world class (well, maybe just the STL) fight is about to begin. The fight venue is on the FM dial. The Refugees are mostly veteran radio dudes and dudettes who used to work at 97.1 KFTK. The manager is Joe Rush (yes, he was the FOURTH member of the band at one point) and the Trainer is Jeff Allan. Other members of the Refugees are all former talkers from 97.1 who either left or “retired” (no, not you Mark Klose). The Newbees are headed by real estate moguls Tracy and Rick Ellis with a roster of new-to-radio talkers and politicians (a page of out of Jeff’s playbook where he doesn’t like to hire radio people to be on the radio). Both the Refugees and the Newbees are trying to outconservative conservative 97.1. The referee will be none other than Dan Bongino!
The bell will ring later this month. Please, no punches below the belt. CLICK HERE to read the article from “INSIDE RADIO” from July 13th that covers the prefight details. (Grand Poopah note: There are a few mistakes in the article. Hey, don’t blame me! I’m just the (Tony) Messenger, well, kinda!)
