Your humble Radio Poopah is trying to figure this one out. A few years ago the buzz was that Paul Berry the Third (AKA PB3) was buying KXEN and WGNU from Burt Kaufman. Paul was shouting from the tree tops that he was going to change the stations from paid religion into conservatalkers and make a fortune doing it. PB3 did change the formats but apparently never closed the deal. Depending on who you talk to PB3 either had second thoughts on the deal and walked away from the closing table or PB3 defaulted on the purchase agreement. No matter. Burt carried on and continued to operate the stations under the new formats sans PB3.
The other day the Grand Poopah saw this posting on the “Inside Radio” website that PB3 was AGAIN buying the stations. Only this time they were going to be running a gambling format called “The Game”. The article goes on to say that the 106.9 translator is being sold to Rob Austin from Toledo. The Grand Poopah is a tad bit confused. First, why is one of the translators being sold separately? And second, why isn’t PB3 doing the smart thing and going conservative talk? I can’t believe he’s not jumping on the bandwagon. He could then be the 5th and 6th conservatalkers in the STL behind 97.1, The Refugees, The Newbees, and the Patriot. I just don’t understand!
