The Grand Poopah was born at night.   But not LAST night.  I have to admit that I’m totally confused about what’s going on with Paul Berry 3 (AKA PB3) and Tracy Ellis.   Just two short weeks ago I reported on how Inside Radio (a trusted radio trade website) reported that PB3 had bought KXEN and WGNU from Burt Kaufman.   You can read that story HERE!  The article talked about how PB3 was buying the two AM stations and the translators at 104.5 and 100.7 but the 106.9 translator was being sold to Rob Austin.

So last week I was at the St. Louis Business Expo in St. Charles and Cathy Lowery, Tracy’s director of sales, told me that they’ve bought KXEN and the 100.7 translator and are now simulcasting on KTRK 107.3 in the Cuba/Rolla area.  The following day Joe Holleman posted an article on STL Today talking about Tracy “buying” the two stations.   So the Grand Poopah fired up my Radio Shack TRS80 and checked the FCC website for details of the sale.   NOTHING!   No filings for transfer of license.  Not even a notification of a time brokerage agreement or an LMA.   BTW, according to the FCC database KTRK is a TV station in Houston.   Huh?

Then today the Grand Poopah listened to 93.3 and on comes a Tracy promo talking about how you can now hear Real Talk (her version and not the Jamie Allman 104.9 version) on 93.3, 104.3 and now 107.3 in Cuba and in St. Louis at 1010 AM and 100.7 FM.   I grabbed my knob (on my radio…I know what you were thinking) and dialed in 1010 AM.  What did I hear?   It wasn’t Real Talk.  In fact it was the same programming that PB3 put on when he supposedly bought KXEN the first time around.   But NOT Tracy’s 93.3 simulcast.  And on 100.7 I heard The Viper (I did hear Jimmy “The Viper Voice” Fish and he wasn’t talking about Real Talk).    Are  you confused yet?  I sure am!

When I check the FCC database for WGNU once again there’s NOTHING about a sale, time brokerage, or LMA to PB3,  But WGNU and the 104.5 translator are running the new VSIN sports betting format as was described in the Inside Radio article a few weeks ago.

So let me get this straight.   PB3 bought WGNU and KXEN.   But then he didn’t buy KXEN.   And then Tracy bought KXEN but she didn’t    And Tracy is simulcasting 93.3 on 1010 and 100.7.  But she’s not. .  And there’s nothing on the FCC website about either of the two supposed transactions with PB3 or Tracy.    Can anyone explain this to the Grand Poopah?   I’m all ears.
