The Grand Poopah has been on an extended vacation. Or was it those bad mushrooms I had several months ago? Wait, has it been TWO YEARS since the STL radio biz went crazy with the likes of Jeff Alien and Joe (I was the fourth member of) Rush, Jamie Alman, John Beck, and lest I forget Rick and Tracy? The Grand Poopah no longer has to cruise down that driveway on Watson that led to the concrete block building that was the Rock of St. Louis to get his fix. Now I can just drive a few miles to the local dispensary to get my “attitude adjustment”. And heaven knows I’ve needed to get my mind clear after all the crazy crap (not to be confused with KRAP) that went down in the summer of 2021.
Remember back in 2021? The STL radio market went crazy adding 3 additional talk stations to the original talker KMOX and the upstart (dating back to 2000) 97.1. In a little over a month the talk market grew to 5 with the new stations being:
1. The Refugees who returned to their original home in Union Station (twice removed).
2. John Beck (one of the founding members of the Refugees) performed a Majic act and created The Patriot AKA Real Talk (to p**s off Tracy and Rick) and put Jamie back on the air but made Jamie promise to not talk about his BBQ tools on X (FKA Twitter)
3. The Real Estate Agents Rick and Tracy turned talk radio impresarios at 93.3, 107.3 104.3, 100.7, 1010 AM, 1460 KIRL, 1380 KGLD, 101.1 The River, CB Channel 19, Radio Free Europe, Voice of America, on gas pumps everywhere on Gas Sration TV and a few other stations that they won in a poker tournament at Hollywood.
The Grand Poopah is going to change into my Cher costume (hey, it’s all good now if you know what I mean) and turn back the Hands of Time and give you the scoop on what’s transpired. HINT: some of the stations have turned into solid performers with a stable stable (get it?) of hosts and shows. And one of the stations has had 430 changes in staff and programs, and that was just in the first month on the air. Real(ly) who could that be?
